[[abstract]]Multiculturalism relates to communities containing multiple cultures. However, the European Union (EU) internal market has caused an increase in immigration between EU countries, particularly increased immigration from third-world countries. The immigrants, including asylum-seekers and refugees, are challenging the concept of national cultural homogeneity. Because of the transformation of immigrant lifestyles in their new countries, multiculturalism has emerged in the debate over immigration.Generally, the current tendency toward a multiculturalism approach among numerous European governments has waned.
