Synthesis and properties of thermotropic liquid crystals bis[4-(5-alkyl-1, 3-dioxan-2-yl)phenyl]terephthalate

[[abstract]]The homologues of bis[4-(5-alkyl-1,3-dioxan-2-yl)-phenyl]terephthalate were synthesized. Wide mesophase temperature ranges, nematic for butyl to dodecyl and smectic C for octyl to tetradecyl derivatives, were observed.
