The ΛCDM model of cosmology assumes the existence of an exotic component, called dark energy, to explain the late-time acceleration of the expansion of the universe at redshift z < 0.7. Alternative scenarios to this cosmological constant suggest to modify the theory of gravitation based on general relativity at cosmological scales.
