Multiplication: teaching and learning in deaf students´groups from Elementary School in the Special School Professor Alfredo Dub

This work aims to understand the process of constructing the multiplicative concept of a group of deaf students, from the activities in the classroom. The research is qualitative and opted for participative research, because the researcher acted and interacted the entire time with the research participants, with the purpose of finding an answer to the restlessness issue: How to teach multiplication to deaf students so that their concept can be visually constructed and understood with the help of concrete materials? In order to reach the objectives and answer the question there were applied activities in which the students used several concrete materials. Data collection was done through the recording of activities, through filming and the researcher's field diary. We sought theoretical support in Gérard Vergnaud's Theory of Conceptual Fields (TCF), which reveals that it is a certain situation that gives meaning to concepts, to the point that knowledge-in-action is transformed into scientific knowledge; in David Ausubel's Meaningful Learning Theory (MLT), which emphasizes the importance of students' prior knowledge and the organization of meaningful and motivating materials. To analyze the data, we adopted the analytical model of Powell, Francisco and Maher, who analyze the development of mathematical thinking and use a sequence of seven interactive and non-linear phases during the analysis. Also helped in the research, the reading of authors like Strobel, Hall, Perlin and Moreira, among others. The research participants are deaf students of Elementary School, in a school for the deaf, in the city of Pelotas, RS. The research took place between the end of the academic year 2017 and the beginning of 2018. Initially, in 2017, there were two classes of the fifth grade, with six students each, but the research was extended the following year, with eight students from the 6th grade. It should also be noted that the researcher applied the activities using Libras as medium of instruction. As perceived results it is emphasized that the students identified the quaternary relation that Vergnaud classifies as measures isomorphism; solved questions by multiplication, not by sum of equal parcels, and understood that the multiplication algorithm is commutative. In handling the concrete materials, it was noticed that the students understood the concept of multiplication, in which each term has its specific function. This research portrayed only a part of Mathematics Education in Deaf Education. It was valid to acknowledge the continuous need of using visual materials, the manipulation concrete materials and the importance of the teacher having the mastery of these materials and the language of communication, in order to allow the clarification of doubts directly.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESEste trabalho objetiva compreender o processo de construção do conceito multiplicativo por um grupo de alunos surdos, a partir das atividades desenvolvidas em sala de aula. A coleta de dados foi realizada por meio do registro das atividades, através de filmagens e o diário de campo da pesquisadora. Buscou-se apoio teórico na Teoria dos Campos Conceituais (TCC), de Gérard Vergnaud, na qual revela que é uma determinada situação que dá sentido aos conceitos, a ponto do conhecimento-em-ação ser transformado em conhecimento científico; na Teoria da Aprendizagem Significativa (TAS), de David Ausubel, que ressalta a importância dos conhecimentos prévios dos alunos e da organização de materiais significativos e motivadores. Para análise dos dados foi adotado o modelo analítico de Powell, Francisco e Maher, que analisam o desenvolvimento do pensamento matemático e empregam uma sequência de sete fases interativas e não lineares durante a análise. Auxiliaram também na pesquisa leituras de autores como Strobel, Hall, Perlin e Moreira, entre outros. Os sujeitos são alunos surdos do Ensino Fundamental, em uma escola de surdos, no município de Pelotas, RS. A pesquisa aconteceu entre o final do ano letivo de 2017 e início de 2018. Inicialmente, em 2017, eram duas turmas de 5º ano, com seis alunos em cada, porém a pesquisa estendeu-se no ano seguinte, com oito alunos do 6º ano. Cabe salientar, ainda, que a pesquisadora aplicou as atividades tendo como língua de instrução a Libras. Como resultados percebidos destaca-se que os alunos identificaram a relação quaternária que Vergnaud classifica como isomorfismo de medidas; resolveram questões através da multiplicação, e não pela soma das parcelas iguais e compreenderam que o algoritmo da multiplicação é comutativo. Ao manusearem os materiais concretos, percebeu-se que os alunos entenderam o conceito da multiplicação, em que cada termo tem sua função específica. Esta pesquisa retratou apenas um recorte da Educação Matemática na Educação de Surdos. Foi válida pela necessidade contínua da utilização do visual e da manipulação de materiais concretos, pela importância do professor ter domínio destes materiais e da língua de comunicação do aluno surdo, oportunizando o esclarecimento das dúvidas diretamente
