The interactions between inflammation and coagulation and between soluble adhesion molecules and endothelial cells are important in the pathogenesis of an unbalanced haemostatic system. Therefore, an exaggerated and/or insufficiently controlled haemostatic activity may appreciably contribute to the severity of the disease.
