European Democracy in Decline: The Rise of Populism

This research project will take a look at the current expansion of populism in Europe. In order to understand what is happening, we will be conducting a case study of Italy’s State and European Union elections. In this case study we will look at polling data from the elections as well as the what the campaigns looked like and what their platforms were. We will also be investigating what events were happening at the time that helped to give rise to new and stronger populist movements. Then we will draw some conclusions from this case study and see where else this is happening throughout Europe
