BACKGROUND: Fabry disease (FD) is a genetic disorder caused by lysosomal alpha-galactosidase-A deficiency and is characterized by the systemic accumulation of globotriaosylceramide. All endocrine glands are susceptible to globotriaosylceramide accumulation because of their high vascularization and low cellular proliferation rate.
