On the 17th of May 2019 a new Directive concerning author’s rights and related rights in the digital environment was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. With the objective of rebalancing forces in the author’s rights’ market, this Directive bestows new responsibilities upon online service providers that grant access to contents uploaded by their own users. It also confers a new right to publishers of press publications over their press publications. Since it is probable that other legislative authorities intend to follow this initiative, it is pertinent to analyze its possible legal and economic effects.
