Galicia, ¿territorio adaptado a la sequía?

The drought, a natural phenomenon typical of the Iberian Peninsula, is a climatic hazard with great repercussions on water supply systems for both urban and agricultural uses. The objective of this research is to analyze the effects of droughts, their management and the vulnerability of this hazard in the basin of Galicia-Costa (Northwest of Spain). Methodologically, a review of the past droughts in the study area, the consultation and analysis of hydrological planning were carried out and an analysis of the phases and measures implemented during the last drought (between 2016 and the beginning of 2018). The results show that, during the latter, the reduction of rainfall was around 500 mm (a decrease of 28-49%, depending on the observatory) but highlighting that the main problems occurred precisely in the areas where this reduction was smaller. To sum up it should be noted that there has been a notable advance in the planning of droughts in Galicia- Costa. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar los efectos de las sequías, su mitigación y la vulnerabilidad frente a este riesgo en la Demarcación Hidrográfica de Galicia-Costa (noroeste de España). Metodológicamente se ha llevado a cabo una revisión de las pasadas sequías en el área de estudio, la consulta y análisis de la planificación hidrológica y una valoración de las fases y medidas implementadas durante la última sequía (entre 2016 y principios de 2018). Los resultados ponen de manifiesto que durante ésta última, la reducción de precipitaciones fue en torno a 500 mm (un descenso del 28- 49%, en función del observatorio) pero, destacando que los principales problemas se registraron justamente en áreas donde esa reducción fue menor. Como conclusión cabe indicar que se ha producido un notable avance en la mitigación de los efectos de las sequías en Galicia-Costa, sin embargo, diferentes problemas estructurales como la falta de infraestructuras, mantenimiento y deficiencia de los abastecimientos, entre otros, hacen que esta región sea más vulnerable a la sequía que otras regiones con una menor precipitación y, todo ello, sumado a los posibles efectos futuros del cambio climátic
