This issue of the Journal of Architectural Education is the result of an open call for papers made in 2014. After the peer-review process was completed, the editors expected a collection of varied topics that represented the ever-expanding field of architecture and urbanism, and, at first glance, this appeared to be the case. It was difficult, however, for the editors to not scan the papers in the hope of discovering an underlying pattern that would point out some disruptive discovery. It was similar to decoding a sort of digital reading of tea leaves that could provide a poignant insight into the role of architecture and urbanism within a constantly shifting social, economic, and political landscape
