To meet the Paris Agreement goal of limiting temperature increase below 2°C, we need to urgently reduce CO2 emissions and reach zero emissions by 2050. According to the International Energy Agency, geologic carbon storage has the potential to contribute with some 20% to the total CO2 emissions reduction. However, geologic carbon storage might be deployed because of its cost and the potential risk of inducing earthquakes for Gt scale storage. To reduce cost, the injected CO2 should be utilized somehow to generate revenue, leading to Carbon, Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS).
