Anomalies in the Western boundary of the Tropical Atlantic

The simulation represents well the mean large scale circulation in the South and tropical Atlantic and the mesoscale processes in the highly energetic regions of the Agulhas retroflection and the Brazil-Malvinas Confluence. The model’s results also show long term trends in the Agulhas leakage and in the meridional transports in the South Atlantic. This interannual variability associated with the Atlantic-Indian Oceans exchanges seems to be related with an increase in the North Brazil Current (NBC) and a decrease of the Brazil Current in the model’s past decades.
