Trabajo presentado en el VI International symposium on molecular aspects of catalysis by sulfides, celebrado en Satillieu (Francia) del 12 al 16 de mayo de 2013.Since the first reports on heterogeneous photocatalysis over ZnO [1] a lot of work on this process has been done, mostly for pollutant abatement using TiO2 (the best material for it), although the possibility of producing with it fuels from solar energy, e.g. by splitting water in H2 and O2 as discovered 50 years ago [2], receives much attention now. TiO2 and ZnO are cheap and stable and provide good quantum yields, but use only UV light as their bandgaps are high (Eg=3.0-3.2 eV), implying that the range of solar energy used (¿<400 nm) is very limited.
