Methods: The Practice of Radiology Environment Database is used to identify group leaders who are asked to complete an electronic survey developed by the Commission on Human Resources. The survey asked 1,936 group leaders or their designates to report the number of radiologists currently employed or supervised, the number hired in 2013, and the number they plan to hire in 2014 and 2017. The leaders were asked to report the subspecialty area that was used as the main reason for hiring each physician.Results: The 22% response rate corresponds to 35% of all practicing radiologists in the United States.
