RELATIONSHIP MAINTENANCE DALAM PERNIKAHAN YANG TIDAK BISA MEMILIKI KETURUNAN ( Studi Pada Pasangan Yang Tidak Bisa Memiliki Anak (Bangkal) di Desa Pamanto, Kabupaten Sumbawa Besar )

Not being able to have children is a problem that has arisen in a number of marriages from ancient times to the present. Anomalies that occur when a marriage cannot produce children will be considered an abnormal relationship. In the Samawa community, children are assets, children are the successors of Adat. So in the Bangkal couple's marriage relationship, the problems faced are more complex than normal marriages in general where they will face insinuations and pressure from people around. Thus the quality of the relationship is something that must always be maintained by using the concept of Relationship Maintenance from Daniel J. Canary and Laura Stafford. The concept consists of five aspects, namely positivity, openness, the existence of guarantees, the existence of a network of relations and the sharing tasks. The purpose of this study is to find out how Relationship Maintenance is carried out by couples who cannot have children. The research used was research with a qualitative approach and case study type. Meanwhile, data collection techniques used three techniques, namely data collection through deep interviews, observation and documentation. The subjects in this study were five couples who could not have children. The subjects used in this study were the indigenous Samawa people, who settled in Pamanto Village, Sumbawa Besar Regency. The results of this study stated that in the process of maintaining relationship or relationship maintenance is still carried out by the five Bangkal couples in Pamanto Village, Sumbawa Besar district, even though each pair has a different dominant behavior. There are behaviors that are very important to do for families with similar cases, namely a positivity, guarantee and sharing tasks. Although the three aspects are considered important to do, the aspect of openness and having a relationship also does not hurt to consider. This is because environmental differences can affect any aspect that influences the maintenance of the relationship. In the case of Bangkal couples in the Sumbawa community stating that relationship maintenance is highly emphasized on the aspect of guarantee because not being able to maintain marriage because they cannot have children is a disgrace and a greater social burden for the people in the Samawa tribe '
