Komunikasi Pemberdayaan oleh Ruang Belajar Aqil

The background of this research is the phenomenon of community empowerment that does not apply communication process approproately. Thus, the message and purpose of community empowerment cannot be delivered. This study aims to understand the empowerment communication process carried out by an entity named Ruang Belajar Aqil (RBA) in accordance with the criteria prescribed by the researcher. This study employed a qualitative-descriptive approach aimed at obtaining the description of the phenomenon raised. The data in this study were obtained from 6 informants consisting of 3 RBA representatives and 3 community representatives. The data were analyzed by using the interactive model of Miles and Hubberman. This technique tests of the validity of data by conducting triangulation of data sources. The focus of this research is the communication process of empowerment reviewed from the theory of communication process and the concept of Robert Chambers’ empowerment which are people-centered, participatory, empowering, and sustainable. The results of the study provide an overview of the empowerment communication process carried out by RBA in reference to the CoPE Program Framework and through strategies for literacy approaches, dissemination and institutional enhancement in the community. RBA runs the communication process in accordance with the correct stages hence the message of empowerment can provide results and impact on the community. Communication barriers can be overcome through the RBA strategy. Keywords: Communication Process, Community Empowerment, Empowerment Communication Process
