Avon Location 19910. The land degradation problem was not confined to the valley at the homestead. This was once one of the most fertile paddocks of the property. The runoff from the upper slopes, erosion, gullying, waterlogging, collapsing of subsoil structures (reconstructed subsoil), the development of hardpans were all making their presence felt. Despite increased applications of phosphate and nitrogen, production levels and quality of cereals and pastures were not rewarding for the cost of inputs.
