EMERGING NEEDS OF INFORMAL CARE OF ELDERLY DEPENDENTS: UNVEILING THE VOICES OF FAMILY CAREGIVERS

Caring for elderly dependents is a sensitive problem for the State, responding to demands that the family can not undertake. We analyze the perceptions of caregivers from the Tarapaca region, Chile, their needs for the execution of the visualized care and ways to satisfy them. A qualitative design is used with semi-structured interviews. The results, observed under the Max-Neef approach, show subsistence and protection needs, as ways to satisfy conceived from a logic of supporting the caregiver, idealizing ways to satisfy focused on state actions. This reflects the conception of care as a family responsibility vested on the caregiver. There is evidence of the importance of configuring a public policy based on needs and ways to satisfy expressed by those caregivers, guaranteeing measures consistent with their reality. This would allow them to satisfy primary needs and advance to answer demands for social participation and development of their potential, restoring the human rights of those under care.El cuidado de mayores dependientes es un eje sensible para el Estado, respondiendo a demandas que la familia no puede asumir. Se analizan percepciones de cuidadores familiares de la región de Tarapacá, Chile, sobre sus necesidades para la ejecución de los cuidados y los satisfactores visualizados. Se utiliza un diseño cualitativo con entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los resultados, observados bajo el enfoque de Max-Neef, muestran necesidades de subsistencia y protección, como satisfactores concebidos desde una lógica de apoyo al cuidador, idealizando satisfactores focalizados en acciones estatales. Esto refleja que la concepción del cuidado como responsabilidad familiar se instala en quienes cuidan. Se evidencia la importancia de configurar una política pública sustentada en necesidades y satisfactores expresados por quienes cuidan, garantizando medidas coherentes a su realidad. Ello les permitiría satisfacer necesidades primarias y transitar a respuestas de necesidades de participación social y desarrollo de sus potencialidades, restableciendo los derechos humanos de quienes cuida
