Aprendizaje-Servicio en Biología y Geología de 4º de la ESO: campaña de reciclaje

This paper develops an intervention proposal that uses the methodology of the service-learning with the objective to obtain a significant and motivating learning both in curricular contents and competences on ecology, environment and sustainability, at the same time that it’s useful to the closest student society. Through a recycling campaign organized by students, service-learning is used as the center of the unit "Ecology and Environment" of the 4th ESO Biology and Geology course. In addition to achieving the curricular objectives, citizen participation and responsibility is encouraged to improve the neighborhood and make it more sustainable. Despite the fact that Spanish legislation includes in various subjects contained in the environmental problems and the importance of remediating them, the objective of forming students who are really committed to this subject is not achieved. The overload of contents and the traditional model of transmission-reception that is given in the classrooms make it difficult that, contents so important, are imparted in an unimportant way for the student, limiting his interest to the development of new sustainable habits. The search for more active, interdisciplinary and motivating methodologies is essential to alleviate the problem of environmental education. After an analysis of the learning-service and the development of the didactic unit, it is concluded that it can be a very interesting tool to use throughout the academic life of the student in relation to the environmental education. It allows him to participate in society, awakening in him the interest to learn more to be able to act better in his day to day. In education for sustainability, actively participate every day with actions that respect the environment is fundamental. Therefore, a methodology integrated into a good didactic unit can help to form a responsible citizen with the environment.En la siguiente propuesta de intervención que utiliza la metodología del Aprendizaje-Servicio con el objetivo de conseguir un aprendizaje significativo y motivador en cuanto a contenidos y competencias curriculares sobre ecología, medioambiente y sostenibilidad, a la vez que se realiza un bien para la sociedad más próxima al alumno. Mediante una campaña de reciclaje organizada por los alumnos, se introduce el Aprendizaje-Servicio como centro de la unidad didáctica “Ecología y Medioambiente” de la asignatura de Biología y Geología de 4º de la ESO. Además de lograr los objetivos curriculares, se fomenta la participación y responsabilidad ciudadana, para mejorar el barrio y hacerlo más sostenible. Pese a que la legislación española incluye en diversas asignaturas contenidos sobre los problemas medioambientales y la importancia de remediarlos, no se logra el objetivo de formar alumnos comprometidos realmente con dicha temática. La sobrecarga de contenidos y el modelo tradicional de transmisión-recepción que se da en las aulas dificultan que, contenidos tan importantes, se impartan de una manera poco relevante para el alumno, limitando su interés por el desarrollo de nuevos hábitos sostenibles. La búsqueda de metodologías más activas, interdisciplinares, motivadoras, es fundamental para paliar el problema de la educación ambiental. Tras un análisis del Aprendizaje-Servicio y el desarrollo de la unidad didáctica, se llega a la conclusión de que puede ser una herramienta muy interesante para utilizar a lo largo de la vida académica del alumno en relación a la educación ambiental. Permite hacerlo partícipe de la sociedad, despertando en él el interés por aprender más para poder actuar mejor en su día a día. En la educación para la sostenibilidad, participar activamente cada día con acciones que respeten el medioambiente, es fundamental. Por ello, una metodología integrada en una buena unidad didáctica puede ayudar a formar un ciudadano responsable con el medioambiente
