The combination of reading and writing can be a powerful tool for learning content. Previous research has shown the learning potential of the integrated use of these processes in what have come to be known as "hybrid tasks". These tasks do not call for reading-then-writing, but for an interplay between being a reader and being a writer. The fact that students alternate between reader and writer roles explains the epistemic potential of such tasks.
