La educación científica en valores: una necesidad en el aula de ciencias naturales de secundaria

In the present study the importance and need of an appropriate ethical education in the biology and natural sciences subjects in the secondary schools are revised and discussed. An ethical education is understood as the transmission of moral- and civic-related ethical values. The main aim of this ethical education is to educate prospective responsible citizens with a coherent and global attitude towards the rest of the society. In other words, an ethical education might be understood as a cross curricular subject with a high impact on the teenagers because of its role in assisting to train them as people. At this regard, the aim of this study is to highlight the importance of this ethical education when it comes to natural sciences. With this purpose, science must be understood in an adequate social, political, economic and historical contexts; emphasizing the hardness of the global comprehension of science when taken out of context. Indeed, the moral and ethical consequences originating from the correct placement of science in relation with other human domains have important implications on the future lines of research in this field, as well as its technological applications. In the same way, the difficulties which can arise eventually during the process of the task of teaching moral values related to science will be highlighted on different levels, as well as the teacher role as the moral values transmitting source. In addition, various methods and tools for teachers to successfully educate students in ethical sciences are commented in the present study.El presente trabajo pretende desgranar la importancia y necesidad de una adecuada educación en valores, en concreto en el contexto de las aulas de biología y ciencias naturales en secundaria y bachillerato. Por educación en valores se entiende la transmisión de valores éticos vinculados con el ámbito moral y cívico. Dicha educación parte con la intención clara de formar futuros ciudadanos responsables y con una actitud coherente y global. En definitiva, entender la educación en valores como un proceso transversal que tiene un alto impacto en los adolescentes, ya que ayuda a formarlos como personas. En este sentido, el objetivo de este trabajo es señalar la importancia que esta educación adquiere en la docencia de las ciencias naturales. Para ello, es necesario poner en relevancia la ciencia dentro de un contexto social, político, económico e histórico adecuado; remarcando que la descontextualización de la misma hace que su comprensión global se vea dificultada. Además, las implicaciones morales y éticas que entraña el correcto emplazamiento de la ciencia con respecto a otros ámbitos humanos, tiene consecuencias en la dirección futura que puede tomar la investigación científica y sus aplicaciones tecnológicas. De igual modo, se hace hincapié en los problemas que pueden surgir a diferentes niveles a la hora de llevar a cabo una educación en valores en el ámbito científico, así como el papel del docente como agente transmisor de esos valores. Así mismo, se hace referencia a diversos métodos y herramientas de los cuales pueden servirse los docentes para completar con éxito dicha tarea
