To improve patient flow in inpatient instances, the whole care process must be mapped and analyzed. This observational study was performed during one month, to identify direct and indirect factors impacting patient flow, to further enable the planning of appropriate countermeasures to diminish patient boarding, whilst improving patient flow and overall satisfaction. The core of lean methodology is to provide the quality services whilst avoiding waste and ridding the process of unnecessary work. Patients and caregivers were followed in person whilst simultaneously collecting timestamps and conducting observations.
