In 1812 the Court of Cadiz launched a new Reform with the particular goal of removing the institutions of the Indian Republic. This proposal of Reform caused a strong reaction from the elites in power in San Juan de los Llanos. The advent of the Reform, like it happened in the 16th C., caused the rise of a new ruling class, which later played a leading role in the establishment of a new order. The resistance offered by the indigenous elites led to a negotiation with the new ruling class. This negotiation allowed the indigenous people to share a role into the new order.
