The theory-based conceptions of categorization postulate the existence of a network of causal relations between the features involved in object representations and consider that this network underpins both judgments of category membership and inference production. The aim of this article is to examine the proposed models (causal status, causal density) within the framework of theory-based conceptions and indicate how they account for inferential processes. Finally, we underline the importance of the task context, and of the role of the nature of the ontological domain for the theoretical modeling of a causal network based on an asymmetrical, probabilistic representation of causality.Les theories de la categorization fondées sur les connaiss...
