Îles du jour d’après : cloisonnement géographique et cosmo-poétique

This article proceeds on the basis of the assumption that insular discourse is not limited to a strict thematic (that of islands and island-related questions) but becomes the meeting point of a number of discourses and modes of articulation. The article focuses particularly on the way certain common premises of insular thought can be re-examined through two films combining insularity and poetry or poetics: Michael Radford’s The Postman (1994) and Theo Angelopoulos’ Eternity and a Day (1998). It concentrates on the issue of the passage from non-insular to insular, as well as on the cosmo-poetical or chrono-poetical aspects of geographical confinement. It revolves around two axes: first, that of poetics as a form of becoming-island, a concept particularly manifest in The Postman; and secondly, that of insular a-chronies as these appear in Eternity and a Day
