Since the nineties, Cuban narratives have been investigating the collapse of the revolutionary utopia. Generally, literary criticism has tended to establish a differentiation between those writers who were sons of utopia, born just a few years before 1959, and those born during the failure of that utopia, after that year. The two groups are distinguished by a fundamental feature: the former came to share a faith in the premises of the revolution, while the latter never did. Despite this difference, there are points in common between “los desencantados” and “los novísimos” that lead us to rethink how to approach new subjectivities in a nation that appears to have no future.
