Les gloses en vieux-breton aux écrits scientifiques de Bède, dans le manuscrit Angers 477

Discovered by Léon Fleuriot, this corpus of Old Breton glosses is by far the most important hitherto known : it exhibits not only numerous glosses (c. 400) but also long glosses, with an interesting syntax. These long sentences however suffered from being edited in the same manner as lexical glosses (= one-word glosses), that is, in an alphabetical order, in Léon Fleuriot’s Dictionnaire des gloses en vieux-breton (1964). We conducted a first revision of Fleuriot’s edition in 1980-1982, and we now project a completely new edition, a philological edition, reproducing all the glosses related to the text of Bede, whatever be their language (Old-Breton, Old-Welsh, mixed Old-Breton-Old-Welsh, or Latin), in the order of the manuscrit. Replacing the glosses in the natural order of the text was the best mean to follow the mental itinerary of the glossator. It permitted also a thorough comparison with other series of glosses to the same texts, in Old-Irish or in Latin. As a preparation for such a project, we present a batch of glosses where our methods of investigation obtained significant results
