Il s'agit ici de mettre en regard le roman de Thomas Hardy, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, et l'adaptation cinématographique de Roman Polanski, Tess, afin d'analyser l'impact de la théorie darwinienne sur la conception du monde telle qu'elle transparaît dans le roman et le film, à travers des scènes-clefs comme l'épisode de Talbothays ou de la fraise consommée hors saison.
