In praise of Clio: Recent reflections on the study of economic history

This review essay reflects upon five recent studies dealing with the sociology, methodology, practice, and future direction of economic history. I will summarise the key features and findings of these texts, set them in their wider historiographical context, and consider what they say about the broad subject matter of economic history.
