Cet article analyse la kiva, un dispositif architectural propre aux amérindiens Pueblo de l'Arizona et du Nouveau-Mexique. La première partie s'attache à repérer des critères stables d'identification du bâtiment au sein des différents groupes Pueblo, à différentes époques. La deuxième partie retrace l'origine et l'évolution typo-morphologique de la kiva. Suit une analyse des pratiques plus focalisée sur la société Hopi.
