This paper refers to a teaching experiment based on sci-fi stories as teaching material in ESP courses for students of Biology, Microbiology, Geology, Mathematics and Computer Science at the Rio Cuarto National University, Argentina. After a description of the overall teaching situation, the aims and scope of the project as well as the rationale for choosing the genre of science-fiction are discussed. The modifications to the selected texts by shortening and/or simplifying long passages and by adding vocabulary and specific information from reliable scientific sources are illustrated. In a similar vein, some activities are included so as to show that they were intended not only to reinforce language skills but also to foster the development...
