Cet article propose une analyse sociohistorique, du XIXe siècle à nos jours, du rapport à l’eau de la population marseillaise et des décideurs locaux. Dans la deuxième moitié du XIXe siècle, la culture de l’eau à Marseille est celle de l’abondance d’une eau maîtrisée par la technique dans une ville en pleine croissance économique et démographique. Toutefois, cette croissance urbaine expose progressivement les habitants de Marseille aux cours d’eau et aux inondations par ruissellement.
