Cet article se veut une contribution à l’histoire de la théorie du cinéma. Nous visons à démontrer que celle-ci requiert certains éclairages que seules l’historiographie et la philosophie des sciences sont en mesure de lui prodiguer. L’argument est divisé en trois sections : dans la première partie nous examinons en quoi les efforts récents pour historiciser la théorie du cinéma errent en utilisant certains termes et certaines approches empruntés à la philosophie de la science. Dans la deuxième partie nous nous efforçons de réconcilier la conception des changements de paradigmes de Thomas S.
