‘We know what we need’: South Asian women speak out on climate change adaptation

This report, from 2007, shows how, despite limited resources, information and support, women in poor areas of Bangladesh, India and Nepal have started to adapt to a changing climate and can clearly articulate what they need to secure and sustain their livelihoods more effectively. In order to that ensure adaptation financing mechanisms effectively support poor women’s adaptation needs, this report makes a number of recommendations directed to country delegates negotiating adaptation financing and to the bodies responsible for the management of these funds. These apply in particular to the establishment of the Adaptation Fund under the Kyoto Protocol. However, they are also relevant to the UNFCCC, the Least Developed Countries Fund and the Special Climate Change Fund already operational, as well as to other emerging funding mechanisms for adaptation beyond the UNFCCC
