In this research, we aim to evaluate the compactness of municipalities for child-raising and the elder generations using actual data of residential houses and public facilities. For each household, we calculate the compactness if there are facilities needed for life in living area. Through analyses for Saitama prefecture, we found several features for compactness; we found municipalities close to urban center with high compactness. We also found municipalities with high compactness regardless of the location in Saitama prefecture. In addition, we showed how to improve the compactness for municipalities with low compactness. The method would be helpful for city planning
