The fund situation and problem of the museum managed by shitei-kanrisya-seido

10 years have passed since the management system of municipal facilities by the private organizations, known as shitei-kanrisya-seido in Japan, has adapted to the Japanese museums. Management bodies generally don\u27t have enough funds to manage the museum, though at the same time municipalgovernments require the improvement of their services. This thesis shed light and value how the management bodies, particularly NPOs, try to cover the cost for managing the municipal museums, and also examines what theadequate financial management would be for the museum managed by NPOs. The result is that though basic part of the fund is covered by the municipal facility, admission fee also used for the management. Even thislacks, some NPOs use their own financial source such as their operating revenue, membership fee and donations. Most museums cannot receive stable benefits, and suffer from severe financial limitations; therefore there is a weak incentive for NPOs to manage the museum. The reformed model is necessary, which NPOs can earn benefit according to their achievement, and to rethink the adequate rate of the fund from the municipal government and the admission fee
