α,ω-Hetero-telechelic polystyrene end-functionalized with both hydroxyl and carboxyl groups (HO-PS-COOH) was synthesized by the living anionic polymerization with functional initiator and the quantitative end-capping reaction. The resulting HO-PS-COOH possessed narrow molecular weight distribution and almost quantitative end-functionality of carboxyl group. Furthermore, HO-PS-COOH was applied for chain extention reaction under Mitsunobu reaction conditions
