The techniques used to build and estimate the reference growth charts are based on normality data assumptions and on transformations of ages, furthermore they are based on data regarding non Italian children. The approach based on quantile regression allows a more flexible strategy. In particular, we estimate the unconditional growth charts (functions only of the children ages) using the quantile regression associated with cubic splines to smooth curves, on the base of data of Italian children born from 2000
