Introdução: A infecção crônica pelo vírus da hepatite C (HCV) é considerada uma doença sistêmica com numerosas manifestações extra-hepáticas. Comprometimento do sistema nervoso periférico e alterações neuropsiquiátricas são relatadas em algumas séries, com certa heterogeneidade entre elas. Embora alterações cognitivas tenham sido descritas, alguns estudos não comprovaram esta associação. Poucos estudos sobre o tema foram realizados no Brasil.
