The purpose of this study is to examine the actual circumstances of being involved in gambling and the relationships between gambling and personality traits within Japanese adults. Nine-hundred Japanese adults (483 males, 417 females) were asked to complete a questionnaire that measured their level of involvement in gambling and personality traits: namely, big five personality traits (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness). The results indicate that approximately 47 percent of the participants had the experience of the gamble so far. This proportion is a little higher than the results observed in previous studies.
