Sharpening Our Approach to Youth Gambling Prevention

Abstract: With the ongoing expansion of gambling opportunities, the need for robust and impactful youth prevention programs continues to rise. We know that these programs are resonating with youth and we have an idea of what makes a successful program. However, to remain relevant and effective, we must strive to move these programs forward. This session will explore ways of honing our youth prevention initiatives. It will highlight inventive research and program design being done by the Responsible Gambling Council and others to target high risk sub-groups, expand program content to include comorbidities, mobilize expanded and electronic modes of delivery, and collaborate with new partners. Session participants will learn about inventive techniques to bolster or create programs in their jurisdictions. Implications: The results and approaches outlined in this session will help those involved in youth gambling prevention understand how to develop gambling prevention programs that are engaging and effective.
