This study deals with the inception and the propagation of prebreakdown phenomena ("streamers") in some hydrocarbon liquids, in point (anode) to plane geometry, under step voltage.Two propagation modes are observed: the first is a slow one (velocity 1 km/s).A detailed study of positive streamers inception versus expérimental parameters allow us to évidence the existence of an inception field (which dépends only on the point tip radius) and a threshold propagation voltage (depending only on the gap distance).
