The promontory test is applied to examine the functionality of the auditory nerve as part of the preoperative examination for cochlear implantation (CI). Besides standard tests, such as pure tone and speech audio-metry, imaging, vestibular tests and brainstem audiometry (BERA), the promontory test usually is applied in case of special issues (very long duration of deafness or other reasons for potential damage of the auditory nerve). The aim of the study is to evaluate the applicability of the freely programmable ISIS Neurostimulator (inomed Medizintechnik, Emmendingen) to perform the promontory test for preoperative examination for CI.
