Play-based experiences are proposed to have a positive impact on learning. A literature review was completed to look at the relationship between play and emergent literacy. From this review, evidence was provided of the use of play could help to support a child as they develop early literacy skills, which are skills that have been shown to be vital to later academic success (Hart & Risley, 2003; Teal & Sulzby, 1986; Whitehurst & Lonigan, 1998)
