Make An Impact: Celebrating Local Heroes in the Cedar Valley

Beginning in the summer of 2017, young artists in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa asked, Who makes our community great? The community responded and the stories of 16 local heroes came to life through an ongoing gallery installation and a film made through the collaborative efforts of 80 young authors, artists, and musicians with Youth Art Team, Arts to End Violence, the Waterloo Writing Project, and the fall 2017 2D Concepts students at UNI. The first film was created at the end of the fall semester and was previewed at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. This semester our 2D Concepts class collaborated with Lowell elementary to complete the second half of this large project. We hosted Lowell students in our classroom and incorporated their work into our plans for short, stop-motion films highlighting 13 new local heroes\u27 stories and bringing them to life through those short, stop-motion films.
