Gottfredson and Hirschi\u27s General Theory of Crime (GTC; 1990) claims that ineffective parenting leads to criminal behavior due to a manifestation of low self-control as a juvenile. This study aims to test GTC\u27s theoretical implications of ineffective parenting leading to low self-control, and as a result, increased criminality by assessing the relationship with parents, level of self-control, number of convictions and criminal thinking styles with adult male offenders. Overall, results from this study suggest that the implications of GTC or how it is measured are not applicable to the forensic population on which the theory is based.
