This study focuses on the current conditions of educational exchanges of overseas students in Japanese higher education. Although Japanese higher education institutions (hereafter, HEIs) have recently expanded their student exchanges, there are many issues which have yet to be solved. This study identified some of these issues based upon the data of a survey conducted by the UMAP Japan National Committee in 2005. The study pointed to the following issues.
