Dissertação de Mestrado em Biocinética apresentada à Faculdade de Ciências do Desporto e Educação FísicaCom o enquadramento da canoagem no programa Olímpico e o seu crescimento associado, verificou-se um aumento dos estudos e pesquisas no âmbito da biomecânica. Estas pesquisas levaram à melhoria do equipamento usado, da técnica e por consequência dos tempos de competição. Uma das alterações na pagaiada foi o crescente envolvimento dos MI, resultado de alterações no equipamento (introdução da pá wing e de finca pés com base completa e foot strap).
