This report is a summary of a workshop on shellfish disease issues of current concern to the shellfishing industry of the northeastern United States. The workshop, sponsored by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Sea Grant Program, was held on February 26, 1987, at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Its principal aim was to keep the shellfishing community abreast of the latest information on diseases of importance to wild and cultured shellfish stocks in the area. Topics addressed by invited speakers (scientists, managers, and growers) included 1) MSX oyster disease, which has recently caused a high incidence of oyster mortality at one location on Cape Cod, 2) tumors of soft-shell clams, 3) "brown tide," a new problem ...
