This work aimed at identify, in the regionalised hindbrain of the mouse, the territories critical for a maintained breathing behaviour at birth. The present results lie upon comparison of the anomalies of this behaviour (apneas, hypoventilation, episodic breathing) induced by modification of the segmental embryonic program (invalidation of Hoxa1, Hoxa2and Krox20 genes, kreisler mutations, treatment with retinoic acid).
